From our friend Steve Hill at Spotted Dog Firearms, we have a good set of photos of an original World War I Winchester (as a result of British trials, it was determined that Winchester made the most accurate rifles, and only Winchesters were used in sniper conversions) P14 rifle converted to sniper use by the British. Unlike many P14 snipers, this one was not arsenal reworked after WWI, which makes it particularly interesting. The scope is the correct type, made by the Periscope Prism Company (and in excellent shape).
You can see all the photos here (or download the complete gallery as a zip archive):

Hi Ian,
As always
, I love your “Forgotten Weapons”‘ especially the video’s. I was just curious, did Gaston Glock develop any unusual weapons before he developed the M-17? I’m guessing he must have at least 16 earlier versions. Thanks for your time and keep up the great work. I would like to see a series on unusual feeding systems. The rotary magazine, the unusual spring aystem in the Mosion Nagant. Things along those lines.

Hi, I can not find information on an experimental variation of the win. P14 sniper in .300 Win mag. I saw one at a gun show 25 yrs ago, but did not realize what was missed until i read an article years later. I would appreciate any info on this rare British sniper. Thx, Steve
.300 Win Mag was introduced in 1963. So that is not “experimental.” It’s “sporterized.” I’d also be leery of that much power in an old action.
