I have seen a lot of folks asking for information on Lugers, so I figured I should recommend a good book or two. There are a lot of books out there on Lugers, cutting across all levels of cost and quality. These two are the ones I keep myself and have found the most useful.
The P08 Luger Pistol (Propaganda Photo Series Volume III)
The Borchardt and Luger Automatic Pistols, by Dr. Geoffrey Sturgess
The Borchardt and Luger Automatic Pistols is by Joachim Gortz AND Dr Geoffrey Sturgess…
The 3-volume set is available from Simpson’s and if you don’t want to spend a lot of money the full set is available on DVD for $35 + $15 S&H…(I have no affiliation with Simpson’s)…I have the DVD and it is chock full of huge photos…Much interesting information…
Does the three volume set provide detailed information on Luger magazine’s manufactured during the Nazi period.
I deeply and most abidingly appreciate your help.
Dr. Ronald D. Swan, Ph.D. (law)
Thanks Ian, for a very flattering and very accurate description of the P08 book we made!

I am a bit confused… What is the relation/differences between Joachim Görtz and Geoffrey L Sturgess set originally published by Collector Grade in 2010 (last time I checked, it was still in print) and Simpson’s edition, other the more luxurious binding and slipcase of the later?
My understanding is that there was a dispute over the editorial style of the Collector Grade version.
I see. Thanks for the information, Ian.
As an aside, what are the pistols in the background?
A Webley Mk VI (shaved to .45 ACP) and a Daewoo DP-51.
I thought so, I really like mine.
The Daewoo I mean.
